Hawley’s long summer heat makes attic duct losses harder to ignore.
When supply ducts cross a hot attic or another unconditioned space, they pick up heat before the cooled air reaches the rooms below. A leaking connection, torn insulation, crushed flexible duct, or a duct that has slipped loose makes that loss worse. During Hawley’s prolonged summer heat, attic temperatures put more heat against poorly insulated ducts and make uneven cooling and long equipment run times more noticeable.
The same duct defects affect heating, too. Air that escapes from a supply run never reaches its intended room, while a leaking return can draw attic air into the system. That leaves some rooms cooler than others even when the heating equipment is producing heat normally.
We evaluate more than one uncomfortable room. The work includes checking the return path, branch connections, insulation condition, and airflow balance throughout the house. Sealing and repair do their best work when the blower and equipment are also able to move the airflow the duct system requires.
