Dust and attic heat can take cooling away before it reaches the room.

    The system is operating but losing ground. Restricted airflow, a dirty outdoor coil, a refrigerant issue, or leaky attic ducts are common reasons. On the hottest days, a correctly sized system can also run for long periods without stopping.

  • Very Little Air From the Vents

    Weak airflow usually points to a restriction somewhere in the air path, such as a clogged filter, dirty indoor coil, failing blower, or disconnected duct. Less air moving across the coil also means less cooling, and it can lead to ice forming on the system.

  • Indoor Fan Runs, Outdoor Unit Does Not

    Air moves through the house, but it is not being cooled because the outdoor unit is not starting. A failed capacitor or contactor, a tripped breaker, or a wiring fault are usual reasons. These are generally electrical repairs.

  • Upstairs Stays Much Warmer Than Downstairs

    Upper floors take on more heat from the roof, so some temperature difference is normal. A large or growing gap often points to duct trouble, closed or blocked returns, or a system that was undersized for the building.
