AC Repair in Albany

When your air conditioner stops keeping the house comfortable, we come out to find the fault and carry out the repair that fits the system’s condition. Lone Star Cooling and Heating works on cooling problems that show up at the thermostat, indoor unit, outdoor unit, and throughout the airflow path.

Heat and dust put the whole cooling system under strain

Albany’s long summer heat exposes faults that are easy to miss in milder weather. A weak capacitor, restricted coil, low refrigerant charge, failing fan motor, or airflow restriction can leave an AC running without removing enough heat from the house. When the temperature stays high, the system has less room to make up for that lost capacity.

Windblown dust also changes what we need to check. Dust collects on outdoor condenser coils and in filters, limiting the airflow that carries heat away outside and moves cooled air through the home. An overheated attic duct run or a restricted return can add to the problem, leaving rooms warmer even while the equipment runs for long periods.

A coil cleaning by itself does not correct every cooling failure. We assess operating measurements, airflow, and the condition of electrical and mechanical components so a dirty coil, failing part, duct restriction, and refrigerant-related problem are not treated as though they are the same issue.

The symptom often points to which part needs attention

  • The AC Is Blowing Warm Air

If the indoor fan is moving air but the air never cools down, the system is not taking heat out of it. A clogged filter, an outdoor unit that has stopped, a failed capacitor, or a refrigerant leak are common reasons. In Albany’s heat, a dust-loaded filter or outdoor coil can further reduce a system’s ability to shed heat, but the underlying fault still needs to be identified before parts are replaced.

  • The AC Will Not Turn On

When the thermostat calls for cooling and nothing happens, the issue may be with the thermostat, a tripped breaker, or a safety switch that shut the system down after a backed-up drain. Failed control boards and motors can also stop the system from starting. We trace the reason for the shutdown rather than assuming the thermostat is the cause.

  • Water or Ice at the Indoor Unit

Water around the indoor unit usually comes from a blocked condensate drain. Ice on the coil or copper lines points to an airflow or refrigerant problem. Both conditions worsen when the system continues to run, so the drain, filter, airflow, and cooling operation need to be checked together.

  • A New Noise From the Outdoor Unit

Buzzing, grinding, squealing, or rattling from the outdoor unit often indicates a fan motor issue, an electrical component problem, or a loose part inside the equipment. Finding the source while the noise is new can prevent that fault from developing into a larger equipment failure.

  • The System Starts and Stops Over and Over

Short, frequent cycles put added wear on the compressor and leave indoor air damp. An overheating outdoor unit, low refrigerant charge, a thermostat in the wrong location, or equipment that is too large for the building are among the usual causes. The pattern matters because repeated cycling is not one problem with one automatic repair.

The full AC repair process is explained on our main service page

The broader AC repair service page explains how cooling faults are diagnosed, what repair options may be considered, and how the decision is usually made once the system has been checked. That information is useful when you want to understand the work in more detail; the condition of the equipment still determines the repair.

Call when the cooling problem needs a proper diagnosis

You do not need to know whether the issue is a capacitor, airflow restriction, drain problem, or refrigerant fault before you call. Tell us what the air conditioner is doing, and we’ll inspect the system and explain what the findings point to.
